Since my previous post I have:
- flown safely to Virginia, where I was expected to help Dawn with some projects;
- fallen 10 feet onto a concrete floor [landing on my tailbone area];
- had my first helicopter ride via Air-Vac;
- spent 3 days in the hospital;
- obtained a backbrace [the only real treatment, as the chip off my tailbone was "difficult to find and not in a place where it would impair walking" per the orthopedic surgeon] due to a non-op fracture of my lowest vertebrae per the orthopedic spine surgeon;
- developed a third "cheek" to my hips--nothing to worry about per the medical staff--"leaking of fluid from trauma injuries often happens. If it becomes too uncomfortable we can stick a needle in it and drain it, but since you won't have to sit on it [it's on the upright of the L that is formed when I sit], eventually, after many weeks, it will go away on its own";
- played a lot with Mary;
- helped Dawn with one project of organizing family pictures, and learned to my great happiness that she has the originals of some pictures of my childhood that I thought I must have left in a copy machine somewhere;
- started planning a family reunion in Star Valley, Wyoming, if we can get Starr and Jason's family here in August, instead of my going to England in July;
- reread "Prince Caspian" and "Watership Down";
- put in a fair amount of time on familysearchindexing;
- and begun CERT training via the internet.
The trauma clinic doc assured me yesterday, when I went to get my fluid bag evaluated, that I can fly home with Christel on February 11, only a week and a day after I was due to return home. I am very grateful to anyone who prayed for me while my injuries were being evaluated, and grateful also to Heavenly Father for his very evident protection. I have been told by numerous medical people that others who had the same kind of incident did not get off anywhere near as easy. For those who have told me I was lucky, my reply is that I have been blessed by blessings and prayers.
